Mid-Century Modern Design Style
(1945-1969)
The Mid Century Modern design style movement of the 1950s and 1960s was a part of the Modernist movement and is characterized by futuristic and space age themes. This is in part due to the current events in that day which were the "Space Race" the United States was in with Soviet Union.
Some words that you will often see associated with MCM (mid century modern) designs are atomic, nuclear, starburst, infinity, minimalism, contemporary (modern), galactic, and kitsch.
The style involves clean lines and simple themes in line with the Modernist movement of the time. The style often had little in the way of decorative or frivolous embellishments.
