I Found A 6-ft. Mid-Century Aluminum Christmas Tree... in the TRASH!!! Part 2
I Found A 6-ft. Mid-Century Aluminum Christmas Tree... in the TRASH!!! Part 2
lad you're back again to read part 2 of "I Found A 6-ft. Mid-Century Aluminum Christmas Tree... in the TRASH!!!" And what you'll read below is so amazing, I can't wait another second to tell you all about it, so let's get to it!

Later on that same evening, I began the process of removing the items from their weathered, torn and dirty cardboard boxes and clean them up a bit before I could store them in my garage. As I'm sure anyone of you would have done, I started with my new Pom-Pom Aluminum Christmas Tree! While the box is in fairly rough condition, the tree inside was in surprisingly good condition, despite serving as bedding for a mouse family or two in its day! The box is evidence of this fact as well as some small holes in a couple of the paper sleeves for the branches. But the biggest testament was when I discovered the tiny bits and scraps of paper scattered throughout the box were in fact the original paper instructions manual! I assembled the entire tree wearing the most fabulous pair of rubber gloves I could find and I am ecstatic to report that it was in near perfect and complete condition; Not one single branch, nor branch sleeve was missing! The tree stand was in the box as well and it worked perfectly also! Next, I began searching for the box that held the two color wheels. I finally found it and was pleased to find that both were working superbly and gave the sparkling silver tree the calming rainbow faceted glow that I had been looking for.

I couldn't believe my luck and did a really embarrassing happy dance in my garage in the nostalgic glow of possibly my best find yet and looked at the overwhelmingly large tower of boxes in my driveway. The only way to get over this huge task was to begin going through the boxes to clean and sort the rest of my treasures. As it turned out, all of the boxes I had taken home were stuffed full to the brims with tons of really great vintage Christmas lights, décor, and ornaments. I am going to make some quite envious here with what I discovered inside the next few boxes. As I began removing the top layer of vintage Christmas hand towels and hot mitts, I saw another familiar logo beginning to appear below. I gently pulled it up and out of the storage tote it had been lost in to reveal a box full of vintage mercury glass Shiny-Brite Christmas ornaments in their original box! And then I found another, and another, and another, and then a box full of all different sorts of the mid century favorites!

Once I finished unpacking and organizing the loot, I had one vintage mid century aluminum 6-ft Christmas tree in fabulous condition, complete with all 70 branches and paper sleeves and original cardboard box, two working color wheel lights, four colored sections (slightly misshapen from heat damage) to assemble for the color for the color wheel light, and five boxes of Shiny-Brites in original boxes as well as several other brands of vintage mercury glass ornaments in their original boxes as well, over 75 assorted sizes, colors, shapes, and brands of unboxed mid century glass ornaments, including many more Shiny-Brites, tons of still new in the package vintage Christmas décor items, including many ornaments that I will be using as the free gifts that are included with a purchase this Christmas season at TheVintageVixenShop.

Apparently, the tree's former owner was quite a fan of angel ornaments, and really just Christmas in general, because tiny box after tiny box each held an angel ornament, every one different from the last and ever so carefully wrapped in tissue paper or bubble wrap and most even returned to their original boxes for safe keeping until the next Christmas. The other boxes also contained box after box of really cool vintage Christmas lights and other miscellaneous decorations and a plethora of replacement bulbs for all the different kinds of string lights and tree toppers. I still haven't gotten around to testing all of the lights or photographing all the different ornaments, but I do have them mostly organized, cataloged and priced, so look for them to make their appearance at TheVintageVixenShop just in time for Christmas this year.

I haven't decided yet if the tree will be for sale or if I will be keeping it for myself, but I have a feeling it could be the latter. I always wanted one and I never thought I would own one because I just can't see myself paying the price that a tree like this one usually commands online or in an antique store. Plus it was totally complete, even with two working color wheels and plenty of gorgeous ornaments to complete the coveted mid-century look and feel that these tinseled trees are so beloved for providing to the holidays.
Another more sensible option would be the practice I usually follow when I find something really cool on my treasure hunts which is to hang on to the treasure in question for a while and display and enjoy it in my own home before allowing it to be lovingly rehomed and passed on to another vintage lover who can appreciate it in the way it deserves.
